19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to win a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

His defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four early chances in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
